SELECTED IMAGES
Very happy to introduce a series of images taken from the works of Spanish photographer Mikel Aramendia
«I started making photography not too much time ago. First I saw the interpretation other photographers did of our contemporary landscape through photographs, and unconsciously I started doing the same. I get caught by it because it is a powerful tool for a deeper knowledge and understanding of our surroundings and how human landscape determines our behaviors. At the same time I started taking pictures I read about urbanism, architecture, the configuration of landscape and the so called “New Topographics”.
I live in a small city which is permanently growing and being altered by human progress, and where tradition collides with modernity. Many of my photographs have this interstitial space, halfway between urban and rural/natural environment, as subject. Capturing the transformation of spaces in any of its intemediate steps records the existence of, many of this ephemeral, non-places.
Our relationship with nature and animals is something that also catches my lens attention. I am lucky in Navarra, where I live, there is a very rich variety of landscapes and biodiversity, going from mountains to deserts and endless forests. Having a calm look on frames has taught me how closely i am linked to these landscapes. This has also reaffirmed me in the aggressiveness of urban development and its, in most of the time, unsustainable growth.»
