LIMITROFIAS
Gerard Encabo was born in Barcelona in 1985. Before the age of five years his parents moved to a tiny village in the Empordà where he gradually discovered arts and started to practise photography and painting as personal research of expressions. This is a work on landscape, a landscape of confinement. A place that seems to have been forgotten. There are only insignificant traces here and there to testify, once again, the negligence of man to its own territory.
«The main goal and the inner motivation to realize this series of photographs, made it on October 2010, was the will to document and show the area of La Jonquera, border between two countries that form a strange no man’s land, a “non-place” neglected, orphaned and decay, expelled from the spanish territory and french history and condemned to paralysis. Highlight the abandonment, evidenced by poor infrastructure, the accumulated dirt and lack of clear political improvement.
From childhood I was interested in this artistic medium, possibly because my mother worked in a camera store and had many cameras and related equipment at my parents house. As a teenager my interest in photography grew from mere curiosity to the hobby first, and devotion, then; when I realized the enormous power of it beyond the testimonial act or family history which has been neglected in the domestic sphere.»
