KEVIN FRAYER
Canadian Kevin Frayer (b. 1973) is probably best known for his work as a war photographer. Since his career started in 1991, he has worked in the former Yugoslavia, Gaza, Afghanistan and Iraq. His amazing work has got him nominated for Pullitzer Prize and in 2009 he was among the winners at the World Press Photo. Since 2009 Kevin Frayer has been based in New Delhi, where he carries out his work for The Associated Press. War is no longer represented in his work, but the drama still lives its own quiet life in the pictures he takes in India. Whether it is the fishermen, farmers or coal scavengers he captures, their poverty is visible in the subdued everyday portraits Kevin Frayer takes. Still Kevin Frayer manages to add some aesthetics to the misery, not that anyone would want to trade with these people, but enough to remind one that beauty can emerge in glimpses, even under the most miserable conditions.
