Thomas Bellanger: ‘Songe d’été’
«My practice of photography stems from my interest for space and that guides me to architecture. I mainly work on landscape and spaces appropriated by people.
By ‘cutting’ parts of landscape, I try to redefine places and to make working my imagination on the context for this purpose. In my photography elements outside of the composition has a significance. My point of view suggests different ways of interpretation of our environment and questions it.
My research on housing began with my practice of architecture. I consider them both necessary parts of my way of looking at reality. The professional practice of architecture helps me to observe better while the photography feeds my architectural projects.
This serie was realised during a trip accross Greece. The idea came from the fact that this trip seemed to me unreal. So I imagined a narrative series on a spirit across my itinerary. «She wanted to leave, to escape. The Mediterranean Sea seemed like the right place. For the rest, she would let herself guiding».
I was born in Nantes (France) in 1982. After studying engineering and working three years in the industry, I decided to go back to architecture school. My interest for photography started quite soon because of my dad’s practice but I really started my practice three years ago. I don’t make distinction between my practice of photography and my architectural reflexions».
