OPEN CALL ‘FAUNA’
BERNARD MINDICH
‘Urban Safari’
«For many years now (among numerous other thematic photographic adventures) I have been engaged in what I call an “Urban Safari”, “hunting” for and “shooting” the incredible diversity of animals that appear in the urban environments of our world.
However, the peculiar nature of my hunt is that my photographic prey are never wild, never alive and never real — and never have been. Rather I choose to pursue only the myriad forms of “inanimate” animals of every real and fantastic species that exist only through obsessive manmade reproductions (in advertising, street art, public sculpture, decoration, etc.) and yet profusely populate our world — frequently interacting in strange and whimsical ways with unsuspecting humans and surroundings.
The simple presence of these “animals,” even in the often cold urban landscape, ultimately reflects a deep respect and appreciation for our mutuality with nature. This is part of what I have attempted to capture and illustrate in this series.»
‘FAUNA’ is a call open to any suggestions on photographic series related to animals. Urbanautica handled this call for two weeks. Some hundreds of photographers have participated in less than 15 days! On this page a list of favorite series. One project selected from among those submitted will be published and printed on the 4th issue 4 of “Stand Quarterly” magazine together with the works of Alec Soth, Céline Clanet, Vincent Fournier and Trine Søndergaard. Stand is an advertisement-free photographic journal showcasing the work and thoughts of various contemporary photographers from all areas of the world. Stay tuned for the next call…!
